PLASTIC PANDEMIC

Plastic pandemic is a work in progress which explores the mass use of plastic packaging during the Covid-19 pandemic using the cyanotype process.

Invented in 1842, by Sir John Herschel, the cyanotype process was used to create reproductions of plans and diagrams, also. known as 'blueprints'.

The cyanotypes produced in this project contain some of the plastic collected over the course of. a year in isolation. A series of 'blueprints', illustrating the impact of single-use plastics.

During the pandemic, single-use plastics have proliferated with the demand for food and parcel delivery services, packaging and medical supplies. Most of these plastics have limited recycling capability and this in turn leads to higher contamination of oceans and rivers. Plastic is one of the most significant contributors to climate change as this does not decompose.
